Pupils at a North Belfast Irish medium nursery school gave a failte mór to an Irish speaking paramedic this week. Naíscoil Mhic Reachtain, based in the 174 Trust on the Antrim Road, were visited by Dave Lavery of the Ambulance Service. Dave, who is the only paramedic working in Irish with the gaelscoils, said the children were a delight to work with.
“They asked a lot of questions and helped me with my Irish on the way," said Dave.
The staff at the naíscoil were delighted to have help from Dave as part of their People Who Help Us theme.
Sandra Fitzpatrick, one of the teachers, said it was very helpful for the children to associate the Irish language with the Ambulance Service as well.
“This brings Irish further into the community and we applaud the service for reaching out to the naíscoil with their education service,” she said.
Dave said the children were a credit to the families and the staff and added that he would be back in future to face more very important questions from the youngsters in Irish. Anyone interested in sending their children to the Naíscoil should contact Linda Hardy on 90740831.
