A SOUTH Belfast school is planning to hold onto its record for the most teams entered in the Belfast City Marathon, in a bid to win a cash prize.
Methodist College has so far entered a record total of 20 relay teams for this year’s run in May, and plan to get more pupils on board before the deadline for entrants.
Marathon organisers award a prize of £1,000 to the school with the most teams entered, and last year Methody took the title.
This year, the competition will include fun runners along with relay teams, and local pupils are gathering more recruits to the squads in the hope of once again taking the money back to Methody.
Other local schools are being encouraged to sign as many teams as possible, but Methody sixth form pupil Siobhan MacDonald described the school’s commitment to the annual event.
“Pupils here really look forward to the marathon every year. We find that taking part in this big event is an excellent team building exercise for those involved, as well as a brilliant day out. Winning the school’s competition last year was a bonus and we hope that lots of other schools join us this year at the startling line.”
Schools interested in entering teams have until Friday April 6 to register. For more information visit www.belfastcitymarathon.com.
