The Housing Executive has presented a Community and Education Partnership (CEP) Award to the Sandy Row Residents Forum. The residents have been working in partnership with Blythefield Primary School, in the sandy row area and Stranmillis University College.
The award was presented in recognition of the partnership’s success in promoting the value of education within the community, raising aspirations and creating opportunities for life-long learning, and was developed to address the challenging levels of educational attainment within the community.
NIHE Community Services Manager, Leonard Sproule said the partnership had succeeded in creating new opportunities in the south Belfast area.
"I was delighted to present the Community & Education Partnership Award to the Sandy Row Residents Forum. The active partnership in Sandy Row between the residents, the primary school and Stranmillis University College identified and explored existing and new opportunities for lifelong learning and social responsibility."
"The project run by Sandy Row Residents Forum provides afterschool home work support, additional support for curriculum based activities, opportunities to support parents with their child’s learning and essential skills development for parents/guardians,” he added.
The CEP Award recognises applicants who have explored opportunities for lifelong learning, social responsibility, employability and community regeneration, through active partnership within local communities.
Sandy Row Community Forum Strategic Development Manager Glenda Davies said the award acknowledges the efforts to improve the community.
“Winning this award is great recognition for the hard work of Billy Ennis, volunteers and children at Sandy Row Homework Project. With the project supported by Children in Need funding, it has facilitated a developing partnership. This has enabled the project to develop the homework support to be more responsive to the individual needs of children.”
