North Belfast United started the new season in the Lisburn League with a great victory over Greenisland at Suffolk Recreational Playing Fields.

After a great pre-season, NBU looked sharp on the ball.

It only took five minutes for the first goal to arrive when Ciaran Rooney went through on goal to hammer into the bottom corner for 1-0.

NBU started to get a grip of the game and started passing the ball all over the pitch.

A solid back line of Maguire, McAuley, McErlean, Harris and of course the new signing of goalkeeper Conal Finnegan were not under any pressure from the Greenisland men.

NBU started to pile on the pressure and were attacking the Greenisland goal.

Great work from the midfield of Nugent and McErlean forced a corner and Jack Maguire sent it to the back post to find Canavan, who headed home from five yards to make it 2-0 at half time.

North Belfast United started the second half the way they finished the first – attacking the Greenisland goal.

Great work from Devine, who worked hard all game, saw him play a 1-2 with Nugent who found McNally to set-up Rooney for his second goal.

It wasn’t too long before Rooney completed his hat-trick to leave it 4-0 at full-time.
