A PROTEST rally will take place at the International Wall on the Falls Road on Monday evening in the wake of the US attack on Venezuela.
Over the weekend, the US launched air strikes in Venezuela's capital Caracas, before kidnapping Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife and transporting them to the US.
Speaking in support of the rally, West Belfast MLA Gerry Carroll said: "This blatant imperialist attack on Venezuela is the latest in a long history of US violence in Latin America.
"The kidnapping of President Maduro and his wife is a brazen violation of both Venezuelan sovereignty and international humanitarian law by a terrorist state. This is plainly a violent grab for oil, natural resources and power.
"The Stormont Executive must immediately and unequivocally condemn this act of aggression and demand the release of President Maduro. As long as the US engages in imperialist intervention, parties in Ireland should cut diplomatic ties.
"People Before Profit supports the resistance of the people of Venezuela and calls for mobilisations in Ireland and across the world to oppose this US imperialist intervention. I encourage everyone who is appalled by this act of aggression and sick of endless imperialist wars to attend this emergency rally and send a clear message to the US: hands off Venezuela!"
Meanwhile, Sinn Féin National Chairperson Declan Kearney has said the US attack on Venezuela has “far-reaching repercussions for the primacy of the global rules-based order and the authority of the United Nations Charter”.
“The illegal US removal of the Venezuelan President from office sits in marked contrast with its defiance of the International Criminal Court arrest warrants in the names of Israeli political leaders for genocidal crimes against the Palestinian people,” he added.
