The Director-General of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, Dr Labhrás Ó Murchú, has said that Belfast has raised the bar as a host city for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, while festival celebrations are in full swing.
"I'm delighted that the Fleadh is in Belfast for the first time, and in all honesty, the bar has been raised considerably here.
"It's going to be very hard for the next host to follow this."
Speaking prior to an event in the MAC launching Seachtain na Gaeilge at the Fleadh, Dr Ó Murchú praised the inclusive nature of this year's Fleadh, saying it has drawn communities together.
"I always listen to others' opinions, and the biggest emerging story here is that everyone – from every class, every political background – is coming together.
"Another important point is that people who maybe didn't have any connection with traditional music or culture have a chance to be part of the celebrations."
Dr Ó Murchú said he hoped the success of the Fleadh would strengthen community relations in Belfast.
"There's absolutely no doubt that the Fleadh has had an enormous impact on a huge number of people.
"We really hope that going forward, goodwill, mutual understanding and cooperation will flourish as a result of this.
"And as I always say, 'Ní neart go cur le chéile.'"
